Hello,
I am taking a summer trip to Russia (from St. Petersburg to Moscow).
As I already like what I have learned about Russian culture, history and architecture, a friend of mine convinced me to take a trip there together.
I would love to practice some Russian (very basic) - just learning from a book w/o practice is not so good.. I have heard there is a large Russian community here, but I have not met many Russians (or Russian-Americans). I have seen language forums in DC but never including Russian.
Also, any advice kind of clothes one should wear for August?
Thanks |

There are hundreds of thousand of Russian speakers in New York City - 4-5 hours away by car. Come to Brooklyn, NY and you will hear Russian being spoken virtually everywhere - especially in such neighborhoods as Sheepshead Bay, Brighton Beach, King Highway, Midwood and Bensonhurst... |

| There are often cultural events at the consulate in DC. You might try to catch something there to connect with the local Russian-American community. |

Better yet, go to one of the Russian restaurants in the DC area - not too manhy Russians are going to attend events at the consulate. I have heard of any Russian immigrant attending any kind of event at the New York consulate, and I doubt it is happening in DC.

Check out this website:

Russians often come to this organisation's events. |
