| Scientist believe that the redhead gene will be extinct by the year 2060. The redhead gene is recessive and will no longer exist. How can this be true? Do they have all the DNA facts to prove this is true especially with all the children still being born with redhair. What is your view on this. |

| Red hair is a genetic anomaly which is quite spread in people from celtic origin. According to the small amount of red hair people among humanity and the globalization of the planet, yes Red hair genes are bound to disapear sooner or later. |

I think scientists can evaluate this using statistics models,
but the results can be very different according starting datas, the importance of migration flows is one of them I think.
By the way, are you redhaired ? |

Thanks for the post....yes I am a redhead....my hair is the color of Wyonna Judd....a auburn red....
the reason I wanted opinions on this is because I cannot see how this would be true scientific fact because children with red hair now will grow up and I don't see it being extinct by 2060....that cut off date seems to be superficial...
scientist are sticking to their story on this one....I just would like to hear some actual facts.... |

I saw something very similar to this a while back, except it was regarding blonde hair. These studies, too, said that the gene for natural blondes would be gone by 2050. Hmmm, I wonder who the people are funding all these hair studies |

Clairol??
I keep seeing these "studies" also. Point is, as people move around more, and marry people away from home, most recessive genes will fail to express more and more often. (The gene doesn't go away, you just don't get the fortuitous coming together of two of them as often). Blue eyes, blonde hair, red hair, type O blood, all destined to disappear (or not be as common), unless there is some survival advantage (or sexual selection advantage). The sexual selection advantage is why some of these characteristics may not go away. Redheads and blondes may well have some reproductive advantages (speaking scientifically, of course!) |

I think whoever did these studies was an idiot, and a liar.
There will be blond and red haired people alive today who will have children in the year 2060 so how on earth is the gene going to be lost in 0 generations?
2600 maybe. |

Xela,
your right....this is why I posted this because it was on the news....they say the redhair gene is recessive....I would like to see some facts from someone.....but no one can show me any...
wouldn't you think that if it was true that the scientist would be taking DNA to keep it going.....I would not want to be a rat to the scientist in the future....
Merry Christmas to you!!!!! |

Thanks.
A pigment called melanin determines the color of the eyes and the hair, and scientifcally, it still isn't completely clear what contributes to these alterations in pigment concentration. But what is known is that just because a gene is recessive, doesn't nessesarily mean that it won't re-appear in a further generation, even if both parents don't appear to be carrying it.
It's because of this that recessive genes will probably always be found, and most of the information that we hear from the media is completely contrary to what the actual known science is.
So probably yes, cosmetic companies are behind all this.

This is terrible news. I was planning on having fun with lots of blondes when I retire. Now my chances of having good retirement fun are going down... |
