Hi all: I love russian culture, I am latin, and somehow I find out that there are similarities between us. I am willing to know how do russians perceive latin people as for example, colombians, argentinians, chileans, brazilians....etc....
I would like to know if latin russian congeniality is true.
I noticed that russians and americans do not congeniate a lot, is that true??

PD: Lots of russians are living in Bogota Colombia

I know that most engineers that worked in Brasil like be there. We have I think one similar characteristic feature that distinguish us from Americans - we are more social. One person for us means less than society.

Russians are certainly more outward looking and socially open than Americans.

Also I have to agree that as a whole the Russian society focuses more on the individual, it's rare to see anybody in trouble, and have to deal with it by themselves. Values are certainly different.

Okay, then explain what you see as value..Russia totally carved up Eastern Europe. Was Yugoslavia part of Russia prior to the end of WWII? Was Poland?

I think no and no. Honestly, where are you getting this preposterous information from? The horses mouth perhaps.

In any case we are discussing contemporary Russia and not the USSR at the end of WW11.

Your right contemporary Russia is much better, this is why I am going there.

Since Russian values are different what do you see as value?

Is your personality more Russian or Australian?

I see Russians as having more integrity, being less influenced by gross consumerism and being a much stronger family unit. They also have a far greater sense of community worth and are more adept at solving problems at a community level.

As for me I suppose I'm a bit of a hybrid, as I have always been exposed to, and influenced by both cultures, and have probably taken what I consider to be the best from each. My personality is unique to me.

But some may argue, nikir, that those "good" qualities came as a result of a forced community living and substandard existence in the past. Those things have made the people more compliant. Give them more money, more freedoms - the individualism will take over and the true self will come out. Which one? The selfish one. Aren't we all?

This in not entirely true. Not all Russians' have more integrity or stronger family unit. If that was the total truth in the strength of family then there wouldn't be so much infidelity or abortions in Russia. I see alot in my own community, the strength in helping one another. The strong family values. So, I cannot agree with you on this one.

I do agree with you on the influence of cultures since I have some of this myself. A person should take the best from it.

You are right, you have a "unique" personality. Idea

This is total nonsense. There are lots of divorces, alcoholism and broken families in Russia, more so than in the developed countries. Can you site any objective statistics to support your claim?

Horses in Kentucky make more sense....

But I am agree with Vitalsigns modern history with more comfort conditions make most cultures more individualistic.
About alhocol statistic could somebody compare for example France with Russia - you will see so strange result!
