I am in a peculiar situation regarding Russian visa.
After going thru various forums and others, I have ordered and paid online for the requisite 'TOURIST VOUCHER' at www.waytorussia.net, which has been acknowledged by an autoreply ( order no.VS104976W-0706TRU ) on 28 June. I am yet to get it,although it promised to mail me in next 24 hours. I understand in between Saturday & Sunday may cause a delay.
But what perplexed me is, all reminder mails to their notified 3 sites, are out of bound. I am getting such messages as, "due to lots of spam, the site has been closed","delivery failed for the site cannot be accessed". Even the supportcannot be accessed for the mandatory validation is pending from that day. So practicaly I am just helpless. Not to speak of my plan of visiting Russia now hanging in limbo.
I am not sure, if I have become another victim of the net fraud Any comment or suggestion to clear this logjam will be highly appreciated.
Can anybody forward this message to the appropriate address?
Also, can I hope to get the voucher at all? If so when?
Plz listen somebody at www.wayttorussia.net
Thanks everybody. |

| keep in mind they are mailing it to you...really what you should have had them do is e-mail it to you or fax it to you. Don't stress too hard...I have always contacted to the companies WTR uses and they have always provided me with excellent service. Try calling them if you can. Just read your post again...yes mail service over the weekend is like everywhere...shut down. I'm sure your voucher was processed and mailed already...don't worry WTR is used by a lot of people myself included and I have received 4 vouchers from this site, and also a 1 year business visa support too |

Ketan,
Nope,
And it appears almost impossible, after toiling for 2 wks and exchanging hundreds of mails daily. Lots of people around the world tried for me, in vain. The only light I can see is possibly to book a star hotel at Moscow ( min 150$ / night ) for the entire period of visa and pay full plus another $60 for the visa voucher etc. This is only for Moscow, for other cities, we have to book again another hotel etc in those cities!
I am an experienced backpacker at Europe.
And thats beyond my limit.
I am flying without Russia in my mind. |

Pradip, what was really the problem?
You did not get the visa suport (invitation) you ordered,
or this support was not sufficient to get the visa? |

| Unfortunately, citizens of India are unable to order visa support through Way to Russia. They could try some other visa support companies but I don't think any would be able to help. |

| Government regulations - FSB rules maybe, I don't remember. But visa support companies can lose their license if they provide invitations to people from certain countries. Can't remember the full list but I know India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nigeria are on there along with a bunch of others. So the only option for people from those countries is to pay for hotels in advance. |

Greg,
I do not know whether the Netherlands is in this list,
but the Russian consulate there also requires to fully pay the hotel in advance.
I discovered this when I call them.
Possibly, this situation has been already discussed
somewhere in this forum, but it is difficult to spot.
May be it is worthwhile to open a special thread,
where people can share this type of problems to avoid
unpleasant surprises? |

| I was told also by a friend who just got his visa here in the US that he was required to show paid hotel reservations too...so I am wondering if this is new requirements as last year I never had to do this |

No, there are no Western countries on this list. But random consulates in Western countries impose stricter conditions for reasons I don't know. If this is the case in the Netherlands then it might be worthwhile going to England to get your visa. Or else you could get a business visa.

Yes, that would be good. Could you please post some more information about the rules of your local consulate here:
http://www.waytorussia.net/TalkLounge/conversation8494.html
If we get enough useful information in that thread we can make it a sticky. In general though, you can always apply for visa support. If it's not going to be possible to use it then the visa support company should tell you. |
