All my previous visits to Russia have been using 'private' visas supported by a 'priglashenie' invitation from my mother-in-law. She's getting on a bit (bless!) so I decided this year to get a tourist visa.

great! I applied via the website and received a response saying phone the partner agency Intelservice. There were 2 points they did not like - first I mentioned Ryazan which was apparently "restricted" and second i did not have a hotel booking! Since I was using them just to get the voucher and confirmation I was a little taken aback when they insisted I book a hotel! Not to be phased by thie I simply cancelled the order and got another agency to get me the documentation (containing the fake hotel reservation).

The Russian Embassy in London now requires you complete a form online and print it out before submitting your application. Handwritten applications are no longer allowed. This avoids mistakes and speeds processing.

I went along to the embassy myself for one day processing and the gentleman there asked me why I ws getting a ourist visa when I had already visited russian so many times. I simply explained that Babushka was too old to queue for hours at OVIR for a 'priglashenie'. The gentleman AGREED and then said GIVE MY REGARDS TO YOUR BABUSHKA! I could not believe my ears. Defintely, something has changed for the better in the London Embassy! It seems more relaxed and friendly.

I thought it important to record this positive experience for the benefit of others. perhaps WTR might care to update their 'visa insieder' information.

Rgds
