hi
I am new to site . it looks nice
I have a question you might help me with .
I am married to a Russian woman from St Pete area .
because of Childrens education and other factors like age we plan to make Russia our home upon my retirment .
My wife went to OVIR office to gain information about me living there.
they told her I need three items.
a national police check from here
my passport and invation
and a letter from US goverment saying I had permission to leave and live in Russia.

can you tell me any information about this letter as to what agency I get it from here in USA?

it all sounded far to simple to me .
is there a main Ovir site wife can go to and check needed items in Russia?

Charles,
I too am married to a Russian lady from St.Pete, and we have had some dealings with OVIR. I have learned a few things from dealing with that office. They are a government office, most people there are very knowledgeable, but I have received answers from them in the past that really caused me some trouble. May I make a suggestion? Go to the Russian Embassy web site, and call the Embassy located in your region instead of relying on info from the OVIR. I believe they would be more helpful with information, and applying for residency in Russia. One reason I suggest this is because I have several friends living there, and they have never had to ask the US government for a letter of permission to leave America, to live in Russia unless the rules have changed recently. I have lived in St.Pete, but never applied for residency. |

I am taking it to heart . and will contact Embessy for information
I seemed to know it was crazy to request a letter of permission from USA saying I could leave and live there .
I guess with all the world turmol , the whole world is getting more wild about things .
I fully understand we can not let bad guys just go anywhere , but everybody is going overboard it seems .
I wish everybody looked at husband and wifes with more respect when it comes to requirments
