Greetings all: I'm planning a trip to Russia this upcoming January. I need some help since its my first time treveling to this country.
1. I hold a Colombian passport but have a U.S resident card. Will this change anything in the decision to getting a Russian visa?...also will it be safe to get the plane tickets before asking for the visa(they seem to be at a very good price).
2. I don't know if I understood this right but: Do I have to wait at least 90 days before traveling to request a the visa?
Thanks |

| well they say to request the Visa no more than 90 days prior to your travel dates. I would not recommend getting the tickets unless they are refundable. Also rember too you will be using your Colombian Passport...not your US resident card. Not sure...but maybe you can get a US Passport and travel on it...anyways good luck |

Surfguy is correct that you cannot apply for a visa more than 90 days in advance of a trip.
Be forwarned that you should NOT, NEVER, buy a plane ticket before you have your Russian visa safely in hand. No.
A passport is a passport. The Russian embassy will not take into account an American citizenship card, it is not a passport. Your Russian visa will be glued into your Colombian passport. The citizenship card has nothing to do with the visa and has no relevance in the visa process.
But, ummm.....you're going to Russia in January?? |

Da I'm going to russia in January . I live in New York so the weather can't be much different and I don't think I will stand the hotness of the summer in Moscow(that is where I plan to go) at least I'll wear many clothes unlike summer I can't go naked . I know that I have to send the passport with my resident card, I've ask the agency and they will do it for me but I just want to know if it will change my possibility of getting the visa since I am not an American Citizen yet. I could get an American passport but not in time for a January trip .
Thanks for the responses soo far |

You're not listening. Your alient resident card (Green card) is not relevant for your Russian visa application. The weather in Moscow in the witer is much colder than in New York. It's a bad idea to visit Moscow in January. It can easily be -15/-20 C at that time. |

I have my mind made and I'm going ( if i get the visa of course). It is weird because my travel agency asked for a copy of my residenct card and if it only matters where my passport is form then I might as well wait because with the reputation Colombia has I don't see a good outcome. |

| Some Russian consulates have a rule that only residents of the country where the consulate is located can apply for visas there. That's most likely why they're asking for your residece card. I don't see that it would improve your chances of getting the visa, but to my knowledge Colombia isn't on any blacklist so give it a shot. |

| I will give it a try I guess. Wish I could have someone from Colombia tell me their experience when asking for a Russian visa. |
