Hi,

I want to take a trip to the Baikal area, but I'm wondering what to do about the return trip. I found I can take a plane from Irkutsk back to Moscow, but that's expensive, so I was thinking, maybe it would be possible to take a round circuit. That is, for example, take a northern route through the North of Russia on my way to Irkutsk, and then take a more southern route on the way back, or something like that.

Is that possible?

Thanks!
Jonathan Neve.

I would not, ever, fly into or out of Irkutsk. No matter what.

Hmm, ok, but... why? Smile Because of the price? If so, are there other cheaper flights that I could use to get back to Moscow rather fast? Or else, would it be possible to take the train through the southern parts (Saratov, etc) on my way back so as not to take the same route?

I'm interested in going through Siberia, and lake Baikal in particular, but I'm also interested in visiting a friend in Saransk, another one in Samara, and I'd maybe like to go to Yasnaya Polnaya too, so maybe it would be a good way to do it...

There have been several accidents, is is a bad airport. Prone to fogs and surrounded by hilly terrain. A new one is planned, not sure if construction has commenced.
