| I'm planning to visit Moscow but I like to know is it safe for African-American tourists like myself? I read in the June 17,07 NYT Travel letters on referring to a man named Stuart Perkins who visited Moscow many times in the past but on his last trip in Moscow he was beaten by skinheads and only another American helped him as the Russians watched. Are there places in Moscow where African-Americans stay away from to avoid these skinhead and how can a Black-American encounter racist police? Hope for your replies. |

Since no ones answered, I'll give it a shot. Moscow is like NYC. I'm sure there are places you wouldn't want to walk around in (regardless of your skin color). As far as the skinhead thing, I think you'll be fine. It's not like the wild west with gangs of skinheads roaming the streets with bats and knives looking for prey. Yes they are there, as I know a us govt guy who they tried to attack in the metro... but honestly, you probably wont see or encounter any during your stay. Just use common sense and enjoy your trip. |
