Jessica Just Starting Joined: 09 Oct 2004 Posts: 4	Posted: Sat Oct 09, 2004 5:28 pm    Post subject: entry from caucasus region I am wanting to travel into russia from Georgia- I believe the train no longer runs because of abkhazian conflict. Does anyone know if there is any way to 'safely' travel in to russia from Georgia? I also want to link up with the trans siberian and travel east from there- is it possble through samara?

When there are wars and conflicts, taxis tend to be the safest way to cross the border. In this case, I know that within Russia they don't even allow taxis across from Ingushetia into Chechnya but the taxi drivers just hang out at the border crossing to exchange passengers. In the Balkan conflicts, some taxis were allowed across the border because the drivers were known to both sides and personally trusted by both sides. On the other hand, if you really want safe, fly via Kiev or some other country.
