Yes, it is interesting, Paul.

One can try making a number of assessments from this data.

Looking at one particular 2002 set of data (Population by sex and age groups), I note that the total number of males was 67.61 million, compared to 77.56 million females.

Interestingly, in the age brackets from 20 up to 39 years of age, the sex ratio is roughly 50:50, with there being actually slightly more Russian males than females between the ages of 20 and 29 (ie. the peak marriage age). This data may suprise many of those young guys (usually foreigners) who claim to be completely outnumbered by women in some bars and nightclubs......

As expected, women really only begin to completely dominate the male:female demographic when the 40 years and over data is analysed.

(However, when speaking of "individual localities", some Russian provinces do have a more marked disproportion in the sex ratio than others. Check out the other demographic statistic links)
