hello all! currntly planning to drive as much of the length of russia as possible (probably to vladivostok as Kolkma road looks to difficult!) and am wanting to know where to get a good road map which includes petrol stations and motels? or will i need to take lots of gerry cans, water and camping gear to pitch up at the road side?

any guidence would be greatful!

Well, I suppose, you WILL be using GPS
Then you can use the "iGO My Way" PDA GPS Navigation Map
It has many points of interest (including GAS stations) and general roads for the whole Russia.
Competotors (only in Russian) are probki.net (which has a freeware windows version, but far not all cities are covered), maps.yandex.ru (not sure about points of interest) and available in English maps.google.com and earth.google.com

Paper roadmaps are available at any gas-station shop, in most bookstores and on railway stations. 99.9% are Russian only. You will have to look them through to find out whether they have enough details (look for driving maps "Карта Дорог" since they are adapted for car drivers and have more car-related marks).
