Hi all, I know that most visa questions are for applications to Russia, but I would guess that some of you may have had to deal with things in the other direction. I have a Russian girlfriend and have visited her several times over there. She is planning on coming here in September and spending three weeks with me. I'll give her a personal invitation (she'll stay with me rather than in a hotel).
I was wondering if people's experiences are that it is hard to get these types of visas (short stay Tourist) for Russians, or if it is relatively straightforward? Do they take long, and is there anything I should do to improve her chances?
Also, is there an issue saying she is my girlfriend...will that make things easier, or more difficult?
Thanks for your advice!
Shane

Hi Shane,
I can only talk from experience of getting visas for the UK, but I guess Ireland is similar.
Basically most visa applications which are rejected are because the visa officials suspect the person may not return. Therefore if your girlfriend has family there, e.g. children, a well paid job, house/flat etc. she is less likely to want to stay to Ireland after the visa expires.
Send her an invitaion letter confirming where she will stay, that you will pick her up from the airport and cover all expenses etc. and make sure she arrives with enough money to cover normal tourist expenses.
I would probably not use the word "girlfriend" as this just gives them another reason to suspect she may try to stay in Ireland.
Hope this helps!

Hi Steve, thanks for that...much appreciated! She has a good job and is renting an apartment there, so that will both help.. I wasn't sure about mentioning she was my girlfriend so thanks for that tip...will avoid mentioning that
She's certain to head back to Russia afterwards, although if she likes Ireland she will try to find work here and move over. Of course, that'd be done with a valid work permit, etc.
Thanks, best regards,
Shane |
