does anyone happen to know how often the consulate requires the original? it says that they reserve the right to ask for the original, but does this ever happen? if it helps, i am applying for a business visa at the ottawa consulate, and i am a canadian citizen.

thanks a bunch,

steve

As far as I know, the only time that they ever request the original is when you are applying for a private visa. For business or tourist visas, they never request the original and will accept a fax.

It really depends on the consulate. As far as I know, the Russian consulate in Netherlands requires originals even for tourist visas, but in England the copies are enough. In USA, the Washington consulate requires originals (sometimes) while other consulates don't.
I'm not sure about the consulate in Canada, in any case, you can apply with a copy and if it doesn't work, ask the visa support company to send it to you with courier post.

thanks for the information. I'm going to attempt to just send a copy in. On the Toronto consulates office, I found the requirements, and they said a copy was alright for a single entry business visa. I'll post the results of this attempt for the benefit of other canadian travellers.

I have obtained my visa from the Toronto office and never have had any problem with electronic support documents.
