Food on the train.

Looking at booking some tickets on the trans mongolian and there are plenty of offers of tickets in second class which include food. I was wondering if 6 meals is worth an extra fifty quid or so? or if the food is utter garbage.

I traveled on the trans sib in January of 2009 and this was standard fare: You'll absolutely be able to do the trip without purchasing food with your ticket. You can bring along stuff with you, purchase stuff at stations (even in the dead of winter), and buy the kind of food pictured above in the restaurant car. The longer trains have restaurant cars, some of the higher train numbers do not. If you're taking a longer journey, you'll likely have one. This was the "first class ticket with services" and the plate of food was served once a day and included one of the bottles of beer that you see. There were a few choices for the meal.

dwebster Just Starting Joined: 23 Jun 2008 Posts: 5	Posted: Wed Aug 05, 2009 10:59 pm    Post subject: I travelled trans mongolian last year, I think the food shown is on the Trans siberian, train 3 & 4 (the trans mongolian) is a Chinese train. Each country attached a restraunt car the Russian food was dear and poor, the Mongolian 1 day was Ok, the Chinese car gave class 2 tickets two free meals. Like the previous correspondent you can get loads of food on the stations, there is plenty of hot water and with a little charm and manners the Chinese crew may help you warm things up. Have a good trip it's a great adventure
