Posting for a friend of mine who is taking the Trans-Sib from Beijing to Moscow next month. She has chosen to buy tickets for her trip independently leg by leg through a company in London, who are being remarkably unhelpful.

Anyhow the problem I am hoping you all may be able to help us with is around the town of Tayga. My friend is hoping to get from Tomsk to Irkutsk (i may have that the wrong way around!) and she has been told she can't get tickets on the direct train between the two cities - and has been told her best option is to divert to the town of Tayga - where she will arrive at 10:00 at night - the onward train leaves the next day quite early in the morning.

Here inlies the problem - my friend would rather not spend the night at the train station, and the company she is dealing with tells her there is a hotel just near the train station - BUT they cannot provide the name of the hotel or any contact details for it. This is, as you can imagine, a concern! I wouldn't want to arrive at a destination late at night, in a foreign country where I don't speak the language, and have to hunt for a hotel that may or may not exist and may or may not be open! At the very least my friend would prefer to have made a booking before she arrives and have some idea of its location in relation to the station.

My Google-fu has failed to find any information about accomodation in the town - or much information about the town at all. Can anyone help us out with info about the town, or even better whether there is a hotel in town and where it is? Any information you can offer would be massively appreciated! Thanks!

Hey!

It's indead hard to find some information about hotels etc. in Tayga, but, although I'm not a pro in russian, so maybe someone could confirm the information, there should be a hotel in the station itself. There should be seven rooms, and (like mostly in russian stations) it's called the "комнатa отдыха". But, in my opinion, although it should be renovated, you shouldn't expect here a brand new hotel, but just a "room" were you could rest and sleep, and wait untill your train leaves.

Here's the link on which I found the information:
