| Of course it does. But we are speaking of a major tourist city in prime time. 25$ for a translator's fee and friend to hang out with is bull shit. |

$25 is 700.625 Roubles at current exchange rates.
You're probably looking in the wrong website for this. Maybe you should try www.expats.ru or an actual message board that real Russians in Russia use, especially college students that wouldn't mind the little pay as long as they would get to hang out with similar like-minded Americans. Or post it on a US college message board virtual and real life one.
Or better yet, just get there and make friends. You'd be able to find and befriend an english speaker that'll hang out with you and show you around. You wont spend any money, and you've got new a friend potentially for life. |

I agree with my colleague moderator in this. I am less patient with duplicates though. Left this post, since it attracted the most reactions so far.
Please (and that goes for everyone).. just follow the rules so we have less to delete in here. you will have less to type as well |

If the price is unfair, then of course I am willing to negotiate. |

Don't worry, Cyndy misses the point on most things said here, the rest of us get it. |

You both missed my point obviously!
$10 per hpur is the going rate for translator/guide in SPB. I was letting him know that $25 for a whole day is unrealistic for this. Call it hostility if you want but it wasn't intended that way. And frankly Anathema don't start anything okay. |

For a pro translator, she's just looking for someone who speaks Russian and English who wants to earn a little extra cash. I'll start whatever I want with you.
Have a pleasant evening. |

| I looked into this myself awhile back and posted questions at virtual tourist website st. petersburg forum. I got replies for $10/hr. but I ended up making friends with a couple of people in SPB WHO ARE GOING TO BE A GUIDE ETC. and they aren't expecting money. |

| I bet you can find English language students that would love to do it for free - just to practice English language skills. Ask your russian friend to post some ads on russian student boards. There's an Institute of Foreign languages in St Petersburg. I would imagine that most students there would look at your need as an opportunity to practice their skills. |
