|
|
Hallo there,
Just had a thought of what the most common Russian
names are for both Genders, I for one noted that there are many different names derived from Alexander, like Ales, Alexis, Alexey (my personal favourite) and so on. Is there one name that every second boy or girl has? |

Ivan is very common boy's name, also Sergey is quite popular
Boris, Oleg, Gleb, Aleksander, Alexey....
Female's popular names are Anna, Maria, Tatiana, Irina, Elena, Ksenia and so on.
But Alexey and Aleksandr are two different names by the way.
From Aleksandr you derive Sasha, from Alexey - Liosha (Lёsha), or Alex. |

I think 'Leeloo' is referring to the unisex names that many Western nations use as the name is interchangeable for males or females.
One e.g.: *Sam*: Samuel / Samantha
Although, Camrade's e.g. can be used if the name is *Alex*. (Aleksandr /Aleksandra).
This page explains it in detail:

This page gives info about Russian names but it's in Russian:

Thanks Mogsfan
The other site was quite helpful but pity I don't understand the Russian language yet, (but I'll get ther)
I have personaly seen the spelling for Alexey in so 3 variations eg Alexei, Alexey and Aleksey any specific reason or will it still be pronounced the same in Russian (or any other language)
Here where I live every second girl's name is Jacqueline or Sue-Marie
and every second guy is Johan or Stephan |

Russians will give you the "official" scoop but this is my personal analysis. The Russian pronounciation and spelling (in cyrillic) is the same but other countries spell it differently for the following reason you can read here:

I suspect when Russians spell it in English, they choose by personal preference? But, your best bet is to wait for their answers.
P.S. You're welcome. |

Weight lifting associated with Russia ? strange...
You should probably have in mind the Soviet times, the best were from Caucasian countries but weren't Russian |
