From old post:

It would maybe be okay [to camp] between Moscow and St. Petersburg, but not around Murmansk.

I bring this up again because I will be travelling by motorcycle between st petersburg and moscow this summer.

I thought of travelling slow, stop for coffee as often as I can, maybe find a lake and have a swim, not rushing at all what so ever (maybe 250 km per day).

So how safe is it to camp if we find a nice little spot. All the myths say that I would bassically be eaten alive by the mafia if I am out after dark, but I find it hard to beleive the myths (all russians have met have been very friendly people).
What I don't know is how the countryside is between petersburg and moscow. Are there forests? Could I set up a tent in some parts out of view from roads etc? Is it legal?

We do have bikes so it is easy to get off the larger roads.

Anyone have any information/advices etc?

Regards

Robert

There are more chances that you ll get eaten by moskitoes and fleas than by goons Laughing Respect speed limits, make sure you have all your papers valid and enjoy the ride. There are very few orgnanised camp grounds but more forests than in Brazil Wink
