Here's a good one.
In todays Moscow News.

After finding two drunk men sleeping on railway tracks two women in South Russia’s Tambov region tried to drag them to safety. Their good deed did not go without a reward — one of the drunks bit off the finger of one of the women.

The story, reported by Russia’s Interfax news agency contained some curious facts. The agency quoted the press service of the local transport police as the source of the information.

For a start, the policemen said that two couples were “strolling” along a railway line when they noticed two drunk men sleeping on the tracks. The two women tried to wake the drunks and tell them that it was a dangerous place to sleep. The two men did not wake up and the women tried to drag them off the tracks.

“While resisting, one of the sleeping men bit off a finger of one of the women,” the source said.

The officer said nothing about the reaction of the husbands of the two women.

The source, however, elaborated that the woman had received medical assistance and said that the two drunk men were detained and that a criminal case could be instigated against the offender.

What is the moral of this story?
a) mind your own business
b) don't be a bleeding heart or finger
c) don't walk on tracks who have no balls

Oh trick question, I see. Embarassed I was gonna say C because where was the husband when his wife's finger was being bitten off?! but I didn't want to ruin my reputation on here by suddenly going anti-feminist.Wink

Well, this story does seem slip-shod: the source is unclear, no quotes from either of the women, the husbands or the drunks, just some guy from the local transport police.Would need to go through a bit more fact checking.

If it's true, I'm not surprised.Good Samaritans always have their attempts at good deeds either backfire, be rudely refused or come back to, in this case, literally bite their hand.

Do you know that the Red Cross practically bans all gay men, Africans and any visitors to Southeast Asia, South America, Africa and the Carribean in the past year who admit it on the questionnaire from donating blood? Outrageous.

Moscow News makes me laugh. Today I read:headlines- Moscow Paralyzed by Major Power Cut, Muscovites Fear End of World. Is this newspaper sensational? What is the newspaper of choice in Moscow for Russians? I am however sorry for any Moscovite who was adversely affected by the power outage. Especially people stuck in metro and elevators.

Comrade,
I am very surprised that temerature was so hot in Moscow for this time of year. What is up with that? Even where I live it has been quite cold for spring. Thisa week very rainy and 20 degrees colder than normal. Can you tell me please what temperature St. Petersburg is likely to be when we visit end of June. Also Comrade, I made friends with a Russian woman who lives in SPB. Her name is Natasha. Natasha, my family, a German tourist visiting SPB are planning to meet for dinner when we are there. Might you please join us? I will let you know when we plan this. I really look forward to meeting you! Smile

Blackout...

I'm working remotely from Singapore now, and it was very strange that none of my colleagues except one was online so I asked what happened and he told me. Gosh! The entie city just stopped working? Yep.

Made a call to my other half in Moscow (cell phone battery almost dead). We live in the southern part which was affected.

No lights, air-conditioning, hot water, no trams and trolleybuses or metro, no working petrol stations, no working electric stove and fidges (yipe!)....

I didn't know what to say besides that there were candles in the kitchen drawer... Idea

You want to know where I was the day of the New York blackout?! In Cairntown, Pennsylvania, a town so small it doesn't have cellphone lines and cement sidewalks. I'll never forgive you, Mom and Dad! Because of you I missed the party of the century! To get yelled at by my aunt for seven days and do free babysitting for her patient's evil grandkids ! Evil or Very Mad

But blackouts aren't fun for everyone. When Enron shut down California's electricity, they literally killed tens of people: on life support in hospitals, in car crashes on unlit highways and those who happened to be in trouble at the time and couldn't call 911.

If any of that were true i'd give you that one. The "rolling blackouts" were greatly exagerated. It only happened maybe once or twice, and the "blackout" only lasted maybe 10-30 mins at the most. The only thing damaging about it was that it was an excuse for them to jack up our electricity bills through the roof.
