I have 2 questions. Do they show American movies in Russia and if they do? Do Russian people enjoy American movies?

First of all, I am glad that you are genuinely interested in what russians like and watch. But secondly, it's amazing to see this kind of question. Obviously, Russians like American movies. There are shown everywhere. Arnold Schwarzenegger was just as much as national hero in Russia in the 80s and 90s as it was in the US, if not more. American movies have always been very popular, even during the Soviet Times when only some movies were shown. For example, Tootise - a famous comedy with Duston Hoffman that got an Oscar in the 80s - was a huge hit in Soviet Union as well. I remember students skipping classes to see King Kong...

Yes, Holliwood is everywhere, even in Russia...

Hollywood has an international appeal, it has been enjoying quite a large popularity here in Russia. They usually dub the films in Russian rather than use subtitles. It is sometimes annoying for someone who knows English who would prefer the origianl soundtrack. Confused

I think Russian films have recently entered into the Hollywood era where they copy styles from Hollywood flicks. I think it's a bit sad that uniquely Russian films have taken a bit of a backseat... they may be slow-going and the actors may be less than dashing sometimes... but they had real characters and storylines.

I know in Moscow there are a handful of theatres that show English langauge films--mostly American ones--in the origianl English soundtrack.

Take a look at our Moscow movie listings at http://waytorussia.net/Moscow/WhatsOn/WhatsOn.html

There are some American movies there that are shown in Moscow in original language.
