In Krasnoyarsk, from the river station, you can get a boat to Dudinka. I've also read that you can get one to Vorontsovo.
Is it easy to get from Krasnoyarsk to Vorontsovo?
Can you head any further north, like Dixon (I think that's the right place)?
Or maybe Severnaya Zemlya?
Where can you go to from Dudinka or Vorontsovo? |

| I moved this post here. It seems a more appropriate place for the question. Good luck! |

Back in the 80s we traveled in those regions by a helicopter. That was the only way, actually, to get to Kureika since the tundra was covered with marshes in the spring time.
Are you planning to visit Kureika? It brings back a lot of memories! |

Not specifically, essentially I'm looking to go that far north preferably by train or boat (copter can be quite expensive).
So, in the event that I couldn't go as far north as Dixon...going as far north as Vorontsovo would do me fine...but once in Vorontsovo...is the only way out the way from which you came? |

I was the last person on this forum to post prices from Krasnoyarsk to Dudinka via the ferries. Maybe lucky for you, but I'll be back there over July and may as well wander down to Rechnoi Vokzal and see what they have on offer......again....

| Thanks mate. Much appreciated. Hopefully they'll still be valid prices for when I plan to be there in Autumn. |

I'm planning to take a boat from Krasnoyarsk in the summer up to Vorontsovo, I've not heard of any passenger services to Dixon. I hear that Intourist in Kasnoyark intourist-kr@mail.ru may be of help for booking a budget option ticket as opposed to an organised cruise. The only way back then appears to be a day back upriver day to Dudinka and then fly back from Norilsk for about $220 with Kras Air, unless of course you don't mind the longer return sailing against the current.
Any travel outside of the ports would need to be very well organised beforehand and is probably out of my price range for now. I hear you can reach the centre of the moon-like eroded volcanic plateau to the soetheast of Dudinka. Helicopter trips over the coast north coast and the peninsualar at 120m altitude are supposed to be amazing. There's always the Pole itself of course if you fancy a winter expedition.

Siberiamad,
I would check Norilsk's availability as a stop or hop-off point. Last time I was in Russia/Krasnoyarsk, Norilsk was a closed city that required a special permission to visit.

| Thanks, I've not heard anything recent about Norilsk being a closed town. Even so I don't think that you actually need to visit the town in order to use the airport, flight tickets can even be bought through foreign websites. |
