Hello Forum Members:

I am travelling to St. Petersburg this summer.
I am wondering if I should take the original papers (passport, other document) with me all the time in the city. Or if I carry the copies (passport copies, other document copies), do you think I am in trouble if I get stopped?
I would rather leave these original document at my friend's house to be safe and I don't want to lose them or get them stolen.

Your advice will be appreciated.

Was just there and will arrive in August also. I always had my passport on me with the original migration card inside of it. It's actually stapled to the passport. As a sencondary precaution I also had copies of all my important info with me at all times and also copies where I stayed at. I was never stopped and asked for documents. You shouldn't have any problems-as with traveling to anywhere keep a low profile, be confident, avoid sketchy situations, and try to blend in. They are a very serious people.

I think that it is enough to have copies of your documents with you. I've almost never taken my documents with me. And when I was asked to show my papers it was enough to show a dobious paper (sometimes without photo).

It is highly unlikely that you will be stopped, unless you are extremely drunk or loud, or ethnic.
The rules say copies are ok but most people carry their passports with them.
If you are changing money you will need your actual passport with you.
