Sorry, I seem to ask a lot of questions and can never provide any answers!

I've decided to leave my teaching job in St Petersburg, for various reasons, but after I'd extended my visa to the end of September next year. So I now have a valid business visa until September.

I'd like to come back to Russia in the summer, to do the Trans-Siberian, and I thought at first I'd just use that visa, partly so as not to waste all the money I spent on it! But after reading some posts on this site, it seems that you can only register business visas in the city they were issued, and I wasn't going to come back to St Pete's, just start the journey in Moscow. I'll be staying in hotels, and I thought hotels registered you anyway, but I read that some hotels only register you for two nights if you have a business visa, and I'd hate my trip to be messed up at the Mongolian border because of visa problems!

Another option is to get a tourist visa for the period of my holiday. This would be easy, except that, as I will already have a valid business visa for this period, would the consulate in Britain refuse me another one, do you think? Or maybe I could send a letter explaining that I'm no longer working in this school and want to travel instead, would they be willing to issue a tourist visa? I'm getting a bit worried because a friend of mine, who's coming with me, has already had to book her three weeks off work, and if I can't go, then she's wasted most of her holiday for no reason.

Thanks a lot for your help, and for the site - it's been really useful to me!

Laura
