A couple of questions on how the visas and registrations work in practice. If I use the waytorussia (partner) visa service to get a business visa for, say three months, do I need to get the hotel I stay in in Moscow to register the visa for a three month period or does this become unnecessary, assuming I stay there for a few days and then travel on to Siberia and will be (often but not always) staying registered in other hotels?
1. To what extent are gaps in registration visible: are registrations from hotels stamped anywhere such as on migration cards these days, or are small scraps of stamped paper issued by the hotels like in the 1990s?
2. Are "gaps" a problem when leaving the country or are they more or less impossible to ascertain?
Here's an example: I arrive in Moscow, register and stay in a hotel for a couple of days, leave for Siberia and travel around there, sometimes staying in hotels (registered), sometimes not registered because I'm either dossing at someone's place for less than 72 hours or moving around a lot on rivers or in the wilds on hikes. Is that likely to be a problem?
Thanks for comments, past experience,
Freddie. |

As you probably know, you need to register your visa if you are going to be in a town for more than three business days. It's entirely conceivable that you could visit Russia for three months and not have to register *anywhere* - but everybody says you should register or have proof of an itineary. I'm visiting at the end of this week and will be in a Moscow hotel for a few days and then will be on the train to Beijing for the rest of the time. I've made copies of my train ticket to show where I've been...

| Some gaps in registration here and there won't matter. It sounds like you're going to have so many stamps on your migration card that I doubt they could be bothered matching up all the dates when you leave. |
