What do you think about Putin's speech in Munich this weekend? Just to remind you he was bashing America's foreign and especially security policy saying that the U.S. is trying to be the center of power and that it threatens global peace and their relationship with Russia.
The comments we saw here in Russia in newspapers show that the U.S. officials reacted quite harshly, and most of the European politicians criticised Putin's speech as well. Just wanted to know your opinion about it... |

| Well I guess if I was Russian and living in Russia then what Putin had to say is good...and I can understand where he is coming from. As an American I do not fully trust Putin and Russia. But it's because I have to be concerned with the US national interests just as Russians should be concerned with Russian interests. I think Europeans, Americans, Russians, Asians, etc should all work towards a better world. I think Putin speaks from wanting to make Russia once again a super power...which it should be...but a responsible one. Really it's all a bunch of rhetoric! |

As criticism at home gets a bit harsher and more oil and gas money is flowing to the select few, Putin is looking for external enemies to deflect criticism and get himself a few extra points. I am sure that the average Russian cares way more about the price of food, apartments, jobs and quality of healthcare and education than what America is doing in its foreign policy.
And, no matter how you look at what America has done in the past few years with respect to Iraq (I think it was dumb and irresponsible to invade Iraq), the current administration is quite different. Rumsfeld is out and our new Defense Secretary Gates is much more conciliatory and much friendlier towards international interests. The huge success of Democrats in the previous elections also removed any comfort Bush had in his foreign policy. Now he and his policy are increasingly unpopular among average Americans. Therefore, it's a very odd time for Putin to make those sweeping accusations. I guess when America critisizes massive sale of Russian arms to Iran and Russia's help in building the nuclear reactor in Iran, Putin gets enraged... |

Well having served in the Persian Gulf on a few occasions...I'm a firm believer in being in Iraq. And quite honestly I would take a much stronger stance if I had my way. I'm all for Russia selling arms to Iran...Iran is not a military threat to the US. Iran is a Nuclear and terrorist threat to the world. The utter military junk that Russia sales is a joke! Now then that is not to say that Russia doesn't produce...but what it sells is a different story. SO sell all they want. Our new defense secretary in my opinion is too weak and too much a politician...but we shall see. Iran will see changes in the next few years...one will be a regime change. Yes Putin has made a lot of money since his taking office...I'd be willing to bet he has a stake in everything...worth over 8 billion dollars...and how much did he have prior? As I;ve stated in previous threats...since being in Iraq there hasn't been any terrorist acts on US assetts...if you can find a worthy one please let me know. But we haven't seen another 9-11, a USS COLE, Embassy bombings, Saudi towers, Oklahoma, Beiruit barracks, Iran Hostage, Airline Hijackings, Beslan, Etc. Etc.
So why is this? And America was hated before the Iraq war...so I'm not crying over someone else's feelings. If Russia was in our situation...the whole middle east would be toast. |

A Russian friend of mine reported that the Russian news reported that the US was increasing their defense budget in order to war with Russia and/or China. Have any other Russians seen or heard of such reporting?
The US cannot afford in any way a war with anyone else right now-not even Iran let alone Russia or China. Besides, we have no beef with Russia. Also know that the US always increases their defense budget.
I agree with Putin, the US right now is a bully-quick to strike militarily, and so nations are looking for nuclear weapons. George Bush needs to be impeached! He will go down in history as the worst president ever and is a disgrace to my nation. |
