However, to be correct it is spelled as MTC. The # you referenced + 7 916-xxx-xx-xx is the sequence of #'s to dial send sms from most US cell phones to Russia. I do it everyday. I am not absolutely sure, that every 916 prefix is MTC, however, I am reasonably certain, that every 916 prefix that I dial to, or send sms to, is on the MTC system. I know nothing about the 2 sites you listed and if, and how many sms you can send free? However, to send sms to Russia using my US cell phone, I think is 10cents per sms? Might be 15cents

Just out of curiosity, which mobile phone service provider do you use? I have had some challenges dealing with Verizon and am open to switching to a new service provider. I wasted a lot of time and effort last year attempting to send SMSs to Norway using Verizon after several of their customer service reps told me it was possible to do this. In the end someone at Verizon finally did admit that Norway was one of the countries I could not send SMSs to so this was when I started using SMS.ac instead. Their SMS service stinks, so I used an SMS service at ipipi.com and was very pleased with the service. They charge per message, but it was very convenient for me. Two-way SMS from my cell phone to my wife's. They also have a web interface as well as an email gateway. I think their rate is about 10-cents each message right now. I know that includes Russia. Now I have a new Blackberry with T-Mobile service in Texas and their SMS to Russia works VERY well. I still have Sprint for my voice service. The Blackberry is only for SMS and unlimited Internet access. For me, it's actually cheaper because Sprint charged per text message (in or out) and IPIPI charged per message also. I'm saving about $10 to $15 each month now, because my wife and I exchange a LOT of SMS messages!

Do you have to pay for both the SMSs you send and receive and do they bill you through your mobile phone service provider? I'm also wondering if there are any other charges associated with ipipi.com such as a monthly service charge. And finally, have you ever needed to contact their customer service department and if so, how was the service you received? "Spasibo" in advance for your help!

Sending SMS to a Megafon service using megafon.com was quick and easy. You need to know a little Russian or have access to a good translator (e.g. www.translate.ru).

I just got back from my trip to Norway and for the most part found ipipi.com to be a good service. I also have answers to the questions I posted. Yes, you do have to pay for both the SMSs you send and receive and no, there aren't any additional charges associated with ipipi.com if you have a prepaid account. Also, the one time I contacted customer service I received an immediate reply. The only minor issue I had during my trip was that two Norwegians received SMSs from me and told me that they had sent replies, but for some reason I never received them. In the end it didn't matter very much because I received all of the SMSs that were really important to me and ipipi.com proved to be a very convenient way for me to stay in contact with friends during my trip.
