|

Hi, I wonder if someone can put my mind at ease. I'll be traveling to Russia on Saturday 9th June, flying into Moscow. Have got my visa OK and will be staying in an apartment for my time in Moscow. However, on 11-12 June it's a Russian holiday, and the visa registration office in Moscow will be closed. I won't be able to register my visa. On 12 June I'm traveling to St Petersburg for a few days by train, returning on Saturday 16th June. Basically, my question is: will it be OK to register my visa in St Petersburg even though I'll be flying into Moscow and spending most of my time there? Will I be OK when exiting Russia? Obviously the only possible time for me to register my visa in Moscow will be 10 days after my arrival! Any advice would be gratefully received.

Your visa cannot be registered if the ofiice is closed, so don't worry about it. You should keep your train tickets as proof of your movements and register where you spend more than 3 business days.

Thanks - it kind of answers my question. The only problem is I won't be spending more than 3 business days anywhere! I'll be in St Petersburg for just under 3 days (June 13-15). Then it will be the weekend. And I leave on 20th June (meaning I spend just under 3 days back in Moscow). Would it be better to register in St Petersburg just for the sake of safety. Or should I wait until I return to Moscow, even though I won't be anywhere for over 3 business days.

OK if it is that close to the line and you want to be on the safe side think of it in terms of 72 hours. Thats the maximum stay in any one place without registration. Splitting hairs I know. Probably register in SPb and be done with it.

Many thanks. I'll register in St Peter and keep my train tickets. Hopefully I'll have no problems when leaving. I suppose I accidentally picked the most awkward schedule possible!
