|
|
1. Does Russian have any words with silent, unpronounced letters, or is it more or less phonetically spoken?
2. I have seen the letter А used by itself in some sentences, but I don't know what it means or what its purpose is. Could someone clear that up for me?

Yes, eg "солнце". н is not pronounced, but is pronounced in 'солнечный'
здравствуйте - silent first в. But these are really exceptionsm beond the rules about voicing/devoicing consonants and vowel alternation.

Context and physical implementation? Speaking about a human walking by feet-
went - шел, with various prefixes ( eg пришел, отошел )
go - идти. |

Я бы так не сказал. Например:
Five years ago I went to university.
Пять лет назад я пошел в университет.
In principle following phrase is correct:
Пять лет назад я ушел в университет.
...but it doesn't sound well.
The exact prefix depends on a source and a target. For example: пошел в магазин, пошел в школу, пошел на танцы, но ушел в армию, ушел в море (про моряка), ушел из института, ушел из дома. |
