Ok, does anyone happen to know of any ATMs which dispense dollars as well as rubles? I'm sure there are some in St Pete, but which locations would you recommend? I'm not too keen on taking money from an ATM at a metro stop; it's pretty much asking to be robbed/bothered. This info is semi-important to me so if you have ideas please share. Confused

Hi there,

When I went to Russia last month (January), I actually wound up leaving my ATM card at home in the US since I know I have this little problem with spending too much money when it's easily available at my fingertips.

In any event, I found it much easier to go to an Exchange Office and obtain money this way and you can get a precise amount, as opposed to having to take out money in $20 USD incraments or whatever the case is. Furthermore, from a safety perspective, I found Exchange Offices to be neat, clean and always well guarded. Thus, you don't have to worry about being bothered or worse...

I recommend the Exchange Office on Nevsky Prospekt....it is located just across the street from Cafe Max and Hotel Nevsky 90 at 90 Nevsky Prospekt. It's located inside a hotel which I cannot remembr what the name of the hotel was but you can't miss the hotel - it's quite fancy and elegant.

Anyway, hope this helps. Good luck!

Take you card and no more than $3000 US in cash and NO travelers cheques -- then you won't need to declare your money at the customs.

Many ATMs (not all!) dispense US dollars, some allow you to withdraw $200 at once, with the daily limit set by your own bank.
