It would be nice to know what country that you live in. You appear to have strong opinions about a variety of sexist and rascist tings that you feel are going on in Russia. Please do tell- Are you a ussian citizen or what? |

I think that so many inaccuracies have been written here.
In almost the whole Western World, skinheads are harmless. Nobody assumes them as being evil or anything. In fact, in many places, skinheads get a hard time because they look so different, and will not get served in certain places due to this fact. Some people may fear them for stealing their handbag, but for the most part, they keep themselves to themselves.
Russia seems to have a phenomenom in that the skinheads there are usually a little bit more facsist.
Many Russian skinheads are actually Jews who shave their heads to fit in more with the Russians, and there are even South Russians who also shave their heads as well for this reason.
The myth of the Russian skinheads is just that. A myth.
The 10year old Armenian boy who got attacked and the 5year old Russian boy, should tell you what sort of people the more dangerous elements of them are really like.
They are not quite the organized nutters that some are making them out to sound like.
The figure is greatly over exaggerated due to fear within Russia over the past few years.
You may find some skinheads who are quite mental, though; but they are Mafia NOT skinheads. And more often then not they are of Chechen or Jewish origin.
Just a shame that all those outside of Russia dont understand this. |

And for these types of people:
"skins" (who)look up to Alexander Sukharevsky, the leader of the far-right National People's Party. Party members favour the Nazi salute and wear black armbands featuring a Russian swastika-like cross.
I dont think that the Jews and Kazaks and others will stand for this too long. I would say that skins such as these will be gone from Russia within 5 years. Because I doubt the world would let Russia continue with a policy of Hitler, and there are enough good Russians themselves who oppose these types of antics, for it to naturally sort itself out.
People will grow up, jobs will be found etc.etc.
if they really are problem skins then its only a matter of time before they get knifed themselves.
what is being talked about here is basically a short period in Russia's history. It cannot be compared to nazi Germany, and those that do are only showing their influence by the nazis.
Its a myth surrounded by fear and hatred coupled with misunderstanding of what really happens in Russia, and not just in the past few years.. |

Made your point, we are reading, but, no one should really care
what you wrote or why. All that together doesnt make any sence.
Sad thing, there are many of you people having "Global opinion".
In most russia kid pen-pall magazines, i red 80% of kids of about 11
years old average like Rammstein, twisted hard punk metal smth band.
Now you want to tell those kids are maniacs? Same thing with skinheads.
Its a wardrobe, same like Rap kids, nothing else.

If you really want to understand Russian skinheads, watch the movie Antikiller. In this movie, a gang of ultraviolent youths is led by a skinhead guy. But the rest of the gang aren't shaved.
And, the cop who is the hero of the film ALSO has a shaved head.
The lesson is that it is what is inside the head that counts, not what is outside. |

One of the people answering questions here said that some skinheads are Jewish. This is one of the most ridicuous (and xenophobic) things I have every heard. Either this person is out of his mind or seriously misguided.
Most of the ethnic intolerance in Russia is not visible and most tourists won't feel during their 1-2 weeks of travelling, especially in a big city, and especially if they go to places frequented by tourists.
If you live in Russia and not a russian ethnically (even if you are white), you can experience discrimination. Sometimes it's expicit, sometimes you can hear people saying things behind your back. And if you are from the Southern russia, Chechnya, Azerbajan or look like you are from any of these places -- forget about it. You can bet your documents will be checked by police. And if you say too much or appear arrogant, they can take you to the precinct. And you can surely forget about your rights and freedoms. |

I said that there were many skinheads who were Jewish. Not all of them. Read again. This is a fact, and I dont need you telling me that there is not a single Jew who is not bald headed..
Obviously it is you who has serious issues with Southern Russians!!
Many say that the Moscow Theatre Siege and even Beslan were a direct retaliation against the kind of document-checking attitude that you speak of...
So it would appear that people from South Russia are NOT forgetting about it.
Of course, I have come to the conclusion that perhaps you were one of the skinheads who went to South Russia, Chechnya, Uzbekistan, Kazackstan maybe and got treated very badly because YOU were the odd one out!!!
I would agree with what a previous post has said in that this topic should be closed, because all you need is one madman at the end of his patience, angered at your words who decides to do something about it.
And its not like ethnic 'Russians' enjoy rights and freedoms that would make a Southern Russian jealous at theirs being removed if they say too much!!! LOL! |

I lived in russia for 9yrs ,,am a asian,,,,,,,,,,
If some one wants to visit russia then the best time is from june to mid august,,,,,because at this time there will be no attacks on u ,,,,,,,,
Yes russia is facing a big xinophobic problems and people do get attacked by skin heads and get killed and no one will help you thats for sure,,police is more dangerous than skin heads,,,,,,,,2 of my university mates got killed in 2006 and there were eyewitnesses but police failed to catch them,,,,,
and even when they r brought to justice they will get charged for holiganism and get 2 years for a murder,,,,,
Russian population is declining, and the new immigration law would make things worse,,,,,,,,
Putin in a former KGB guy talking about democracy, rather he says russian type of democracy,,,,,?
I have all my best wishes with russian people because i studied here and my russian teachers and friends made a difference in my personality, the positive aspect,,,,,,,,,,,
russian must understand tht they r prosperous nation and they have contributed too much to humanity,in art , literature,medicine,,,,,,,,,,,
they must not underestimate themselves.
I wish to see russia as a growing nation not a Racist nation.....

Xenophobia and racism is a part of human nature. We are made to prefer our kind, whether you like it or not. That's why blacks live with blacks, Asians with Asians, ...
The city where I live there is Chinatown, Black ghetto, Russian district...we all naturally stick to our own. And if not by skin color, then we judge by achievement:we want to live with people who are on the same level-professionally or culturally. Denying it is pointless. If you go look for a job in Chinatown and you are white, you have 0 chance. If you go for an intrview with a black manager, he will hire someone less qualified than you JUST because they have th same skin color. So racism is everywhere in every generation. We only have to be careful not to allow any acts of violence. |
