I am going to visit a friend in Yaroslavl. It appears that the tourist visa is quicker and easier to get than a homestay visa. However, if I got a tourist visa would I still be able to stay with my friend, or would I be required to stay at a specific hotel?
What is the difference in time that it would take to get a toursit or homestay visa?
The tourist visa is good for 30 days and the homestay visa is good for 90 days. Do you have to specify the dates you will be staying and adhere to that, or can it be any 30 or 90 day window?
Thank you for your time. |

As your friend is in Yaroslavl, I don't think you will want to spend some time in Moscow, but will want to go to Yaroslavl directly. In this case you won't have time to register your visa in the travel agency that'll make the invitation (it takes about 3 days now), so you have two options:
1. You get a private visa from your friend. Your friend should go to OVIR (Immigration Office - local) and fill in the private invitation application form. It'll take about 1 month to process it, once it is issued, it should be sent to you by post (original), and you should apply for visa with this invitation. It takes another 2 weeks to make the visa, and voila, you have a 3-month visa, single entry also. When you come to Yaroslavl, you'll need to go to the same OVIR office with your friend and papers that prove he owns (or has rights) for the apartment he wants to register you in, and you get your registration.
2. You get a tourist visa from a travel agency. In this case, you should be sure you'll be able to register it -- it's very important. Normally, a hotel MUST register your visa, but they may refuse to do it for longer than you're actually staying (which is not right according to the law, but I don't know 100% you'll be able to prove it in Yaroslavl. while you won't have any other choice...). So I recommend that your friend calls a couple of hotels in Yaroslavl and ask them if a person can come with a tourist visa, buy a room for one night only, and get registration for longer (for example, if you are going to stay 20 days -- 20 days). If he gets a positive response, then you can get your tourist invitation, visa, and then register it in this hotel.
There's another option: you can find a local travel agency in Yaroslavl, that'll make the invitation for you. But you should be sure they're trustful, because if there's a slight problem, you might be refused Russian visa. And also, please, don't forget about registration, always ask ANY travel agency that's making your invitation, what is their address in Russia, where you can register your visa.
Hope this helps....

No, I don't, but if you don't mind staying in Moscow for the first 3 days, you can order the invitation through our site (that's the time you'll need to wait until the visa is registered). Also, you can apply for the invitation, and ask them in the "Message" field if they have a representative in Yaroslavl that would assist you in registering your visa.
Again, I advise you to apply for a visa support, only after you're sure how to register it.
Thanks
