Hello,
Please can anybody from waytorussia.com give me advice on this query? In summary, I'm leaving the UK on 6th April for China, then hopefully entering Russia in early July, leaving end August. I would like to apply for a 3 month business visa and use waytorussia.com for the support. I have three main queries:
1. Will I have to write my own introductory letter to the Russian consulate in the UK, and if so, is there any advice as to what I should write?
2. Can I apply now, or do I have to wait until 3 months before I want the visa to commence?
3. My girlfriend, who is travelling with me, is German but resident in the UK. She would like to apply to the Russian consulate in the UK. Have you any experience with this situation?
I'd be grateful if you could clarify these points, as I would like to start my application soon.
Thanks,
Jack. |

It's WayToRussia.Net.
I already gave you replies in your other topic, but I'll try again:
1) Our partner visa company should be able to provide you with that or with assistance on how to write your own letter if you want to do that.
2) For tourist visas -- yes, it's 3 months before it starts.
3) She needs a proof that she's a resident in UK. Some kind of stamp in her passport and the latest utility bill (or bank statement) with her current UK address may be helpful. |

Thank you for the information. I think we have a problem - we can't apply for the visas here in the UK as we leave beginning of April, and won't be entering Russia till the beginnning of July. From what I have read, it seems that I can get my visa in Shanghai, but I am worried that my girlfriend will not be able to, as she is German. Does you know if Germans can apply for a Russian visa (tourist or business) in Shanghai?
Thanks,
Jack. |

Jack,
She won't be able to get it in Shanghai.
I'd recommend your girlfriend to apply for a business visa in the Russian consulate in UK. They might have less strict rules for this one and issue a visa for her. It's better to call them and check, because anyway you need to know how much she needs to pay. Usually it's ?30, but nationals of other countries pay a bit more.
Please, tell me how it goes, because if this one doesn't work, I'll think how I can help further. |

Thanks for the reply. We have contacted the Russian consulate in London and they say that she can apply to them. However the dates mean this is impossible. We leave for Hong Kong on 5th April. If the rules say that we cannot apply for the 3 month business visa untl 45 days before the start date, and the application procedure takes 2-3 weeks, this means the visa start date would have to be around the end of April, ending at the end of July. But we were intending on leaving china and entering russia at early-mid July, leaving end of August.
This is why we were hoping we could get the visas in China. We have emailed the consulates in Hong Kong and Shanghai. Hong Kong replied saying it would be possible for her to apply there, but we would still have the same problem of the 45 day rule. We are visiting Shanghai just before we leave for Russia, so this would be much better. However, Shanghai consulate have not replied.
With our itinerary I can't see any possibility other than applying in Shanghai - any suggestions? |

Get a 6 month business visa.
Or a 12 month business visa. |

I am Irish and plan on embarking on a similar trip to yours. I was a bit alarmed when I saw that the UK Russian embassy only gave visas valid for 45 days after the date of issue.
I rang the Russian Embassy in Dublin today and they told me that once my invitation documents were in order, they would issue a visa for any date of entry. I gave the example of applying for a visa in May but not entering til August and he told me that was no problem.

Hello eee,
Thanks for the information. Are you planning on getting a business visa? I ask because I've been told by waytorussia.com and visatorussia.com that they can't supply the invitations more than 45 days in advance either. Whereas for tourist invitations they can supply them any time in advance.
Regards,
Jack. |

I think the 45 days must be right because I experienced a similar glitch last year with the Russian Consultate in London... so why don't you just follow the advice that Wavetossed gave earlier?
That's the obvious and easiest work around... |

I looked into the 6 month or 12 month business visa but from what I was told, we would need to get AIDS test certificates. It would also be quite a lot more expensive. At the moment, our current thinking is that we'll get tourist visas when we're in Hong Kong (we arrive 5th April). We've emailed the Hong Kong consulate and they say they will accept German applications. This will mean we'll have to leave Russia by about the 3rd August, which is slightly earlier than we would have liked. Ideally we'd get the visas in Shanghai later on in our trip, but we've had no luck finding out whether they'll accept German applications.
Thanks for all the advice to date,
Jack. |
