It is book 1 and starts with the very basics of Russian. Here is brief description of the course (found in the front of the book). I have been using it for the past 9 months ( I am on book 3 now) and I find it to be very good. "The Learnables is a highly effective approach for learning a foreign language. More than 25 years of research and testing assures successful foreign language learning. THE LEARNABLES uses a unique linguistic sequence that is combined with illustrations and audio recordings to enable you to think and speak in a foreign language....THE LEARNABLES courses do not use English translations. THINKING IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE requires that you do not translate from English. There are no English sentances on the audion recordings, only the sentences in the foreign language. By looking at each illustration and at the same time listening to the recordings, you will have no difficulty in learning the language." It is convenient too because you can listen to it while you are in the car or working out or whatever, and the speakers are native Russians. Also I have found that it is true about THINKING in Russian, because I have found myself falling asleep at night going over conversations in Russian. And my Russian friends say that I have a very good accent. The Learnables is a good course to use if you are learning independently. I am selling the whole first course which includes the book and 6 cassette tapes for $37.00 plus $5.oo shipping and handling. The book has only been used once by me and shows little to no signs of wear. I also have the next 3 books to offer if anyone is interested.
