I'm planning to go to Moscow by friends from 31/12 to 9/1. I got the visa but I think that the registration can be a problem, due the large amount of holidays in that period. My travel agency that issued the invitation for the visa told me that OVIR will not work, but they can prepare for me an official letter where is written why I didn't registrate the visa. Can I solve this problem booking a room for one night in a hotel, for example on 6th of January? On 7 will be holiday so I think I'll be into the 72 hours interval when I leave on 9 evening. Is this correct or you can suggest something else ?
My agency told me that the hotel will register the visa for the period I'll be in, and no more.
Thank you very much
Giovanni

Hello,

You shouldn't worry about the registration.

The law says that you should register your visa if you're staying in Russia for longer than 3 working days.

You will arrive on the 31st December, the 1st and 2nd January are public holidays in Russia, the 3rd and 4th January are Saturday and Sunday -- not working days as well, the working days are then 5th and 6th January and 7th and 8th January are holidays again, and the 9th is the working day. So, if you leave on the 9th January earlier than you arrived on the 31st December, officially you DO NOT have to register your visa, because you stayed in all less than 72 hours. Even, if you leave a little bit later, OVIR offices are closed and it is technically not possible to register your visa. I advise you to get this letter that your agency proposed, so you will be 100% safe.

Hope that helps,
