Nope Smile but i've read many auto magazines and watched some tv programs about automobiles Wink So they (experts from "Auto-review" - one of the best russian magazines) tried our cars and it was shit lots of critics....
I don't have significant experience of driving but i know that russian car can "live" without fixing in good case ~2 years. German cars ('senond-hand' cars) are much better in all cases.... but it much more cheaper to repair Lada than WV for example...

Guys, you have very sofisticated desires about cars. Atomcat's suggestion is interesting but expends to much gas. If I had to choice a car to drive in Eastern Europe, for sure I'd try first a Trabant, that fantastic machine from East Germany. It's cool. It became an icon. How about to drive it in Moscow and St. Pete?

My mate had a Trabant years ago... he left it in a corner of the farm for a bit because it wasn't taxed, and when he went to get it out again the pigs had eaten all the bodywork... it broke his heart... Laughing

My choice of motor for Russia has gotta be a Landcruiser, with BF Goodrich Mud Terrain boots of course... safe, go-anywhere, powerful and fast... Very Happy

Skip, as far as I know, there is only one Trabant here in Sao Paulo. It's well conserved. The owner refused an offer near US$ 5 thousand. Look what your mate has lost...

It was a decade hence... but he loved that damned car so much that the whole subject is still "off limits" to this day... I just remember trying my hardest not to crease up at the time... Laughing

But there were worse cars of that era... and strangely enough most of them can still be found dotted around the FSU... Shocked

Most useful cars in Russia- LADA. Everywere you will find service, spare parts, etc. Eats all petrol, 92-95. That's important, outside S-Petersburg and Moscow sometime you will not find enouth quality petrol.

The second place- VW. But do not take with katalysator and for 95 petrol.

Hi all,I think that you have to look at it in many ways.Like are you mechanicly minded? so that if you have a problem can you fix it easly and cheaply?Second is what kind of fuel will it need? As with most if not all high performance sports cars like Japanese Supras,Skylines,Chasers,200sx and 180sx,silvias.Iam sure that you would not beable to get the high octain fuel needed every where! So A car built to run on poorer fuel may be better suited.Iam not to sure about Ladas as there not very popular here in Aust they seam to rust badly and have engine promblems.I my self drive A 1992 180sx turbo and do a lot of drifting/racing :burnout:and yes it is very reliable but parts are hard to get you just cant go and buy a t28 turbo from you local wreckers lol. I also have an old Land rover bit back in 1957 that is tough as nails and can go any where thats easy/cheap to fix and can even run on white spirit if needed .Witch is a good thing when you out in the bush in far north Queensland and the only you have is you and your tool kit.But it is sooooo slow hence the 180sx Dancing

I have no idea, having never been to Russia (yet), but I do have a slightly off-topic question:
In Russia (for example the Moscow area) do you have to put up with a lot of auto taxes, stickers, safety /emission inspections before you can drive a vehicle legally? We have a mountain of regulations here in the states .. you'd get busted for driving around on a bald tire for example! (i.e. for being poor)
curious
