The average salary is at 500 USD in moscow, 120 in the country side, but...
this doesnt include the black market Rolling Eyes

Though some parts of Moscow are expensive,that doesn't count for all places..
About Moscow being hell try living in England where the bills make you wish you was in hell...
It's paradise here for me cheap cigs,cheap beer..
You can't go wrong..
What pisses me of, is that you have filthy rich people eating out and just a few feet away beggers are on their hands and kness..I don't mind rich or poor beggers but this problem should be sorted..

Yes cheap beers and cigarettes, in the high street kiosks I love it, But have you tried their "PUBS" you know, these places that are meant for working class people. And the "English Pub" What a joke.

No wonder the Russians drink their vodka and beer on the streets and in the metro. Oh and the forest barbeque and booze ups in the Summer. I love them. They are not so stupid like the ex-pats or tourists.

Nothing wrong with being a little pink (or, dare I say, red) if social justice is the aim. The class divisions will eventually balance out, I think, but then again, I don't head over to Russia until August. Cool

Ok I had a couple of Russian guest who came to the hotel I work at, they were all ages. They drank all our Vodka, from the minibar, from the bar from the function, we were out of Vodka stock for a whole 2 weeks, I know in Russian custom they DO drink a lot of Vodka, how does the younger generation compare? Or was that group an exception?

Moskva is truly a beautiful city............you can turn in so many directions and see something totally out of the ordinary. Of course I love the churches and all the buildings downtown, I love all of the art, and the underground is one of the most amazing in the world(so there is dirt, there is dirt everywhere, look past the dirt and find the jewel), the history is alive, it is seeping up from the stones on the ground and in the faces of the people, but you must look for it, you must not look for what you know or expect, you must look for something else and I promise you will find it.
About expense, if you stay in the tourist areas then you will pay outrageous prices, but if you go off the beaten path then there are many deals to be had.........be smart, and explore, that is what travelling is for!!!

but the whether is moscow is horrible. how long can someone last in a city with grey skies? i have never seen a flower grow in moscow. Now a city like Belgorod.....

Moscow is overpriced mostly in terms of buying property here. Actual average rate of buying 1 sq m of apartment is about 5-6 thousands USD. That is considering, that this apartment is not in the center and requires capital investments. As a result of it prices for hotels and apartment rentals are also high. In all other terms, Moscow is much cheaper than any Europian city (not speaking about the most expensive fancy restaurants like Pushkin, etc.)

The last official average salary rate in Moscow (as at the end of 2007) was $1000 or RUB 23 170.

That`s why I wrote "official". I just wanted to make correction to 500$, not to the statement of hidden slaries.

And by the way I am Russian and living in Moscow Very Happy

4,000$ is Moscow salary for specialists having about 3 years of experience in consulting, accounting or EXTREMELY good and experienced office managers. But there are about just 20-30% of people, who are well educated, making career, etc. Most people are sharing rooms, searching for work, leaving work at 5-6pm and getting not taht much.

So my estimation is that majority of people get about 1500-2000.

Not sure how you could go to Russia and not hang out in Moscow for a week or two. Plenty to see and do there. If you get off the beaten paths youll be surprised by the restaurants and bars and other things you will find. you wouldn't want to miss it. Dave
