Recently Ukraine has decided to lift all visa restrictions for Americans and EU citizens. They have set the date as 1 May. Now it will be much easier for people to get to Moscow and other destinations in Russia from central Europe. Before, you had to go through the Baltic states in order to avoid transit visa charges.

I read that this was only for the summer - up to 1 September.

It's a pity they announce it so late, otherwise we would have gone to the Krim for the May holidays.

I would double check that if I were you. The May 1st. to Sept 1st. concession is for EU citizens only as far as I know. Discussions with the USA are ongoing but there is no confirmation so far that they will be included initially.
