Hi,
I'd like to look for a job in Russia in the St.Petersburg area (ideally in Engineering) and i'd just like to know how you get started in doing this. If anyone can give me a pointer in the right direction it would be much appreciated, thanks!

If you speak Russian... essential really considering what you say you wish to do... then use Google (.ru) to find SPB community job bulletin boards and go from there...
If you don't speak Russian you're probably on a hiding to nothing... unless you possess specialist skills which are uncommon... |

Try this link:

As Skip points out, though, unless you have some very specialized engineering knowledge, it's not likely a company in Russia will shell out for a foreigner. In any case, good luck. |

I do speak Russian and as a matter of fact I am Russian by nationality. My question is, How can I as an American citizen look for a job in Russia if the Bussiness Visa to Russia does NOT allow me to be legally employed in Russia ? For some personal reasons II would love to work in Moscow for the next five years and need to know what my options are? Is the only way to work legally is find a job in an american company, which has bussines in Russia and stay on the company payroll? In this case, where should I look for companies and vacancies like that? Really need help on this problem!
Anyone willing to help please reply here or my ICQ #10768690
Thank you. |

I too would like to live and work in Russia. If anyone has a good way of locating American companies hiring for positions in Russia, please do let me know.
Thanks, I appreciate any information. |

Try Expat sites , not necessarily American, but foreign companies in Russia, includes british and European companies. Try the job section in Expat.Ru and Moscow times, check the jobs section and you can also post a profile of yourself, stating what specific employment you want, your qualifications and experience, and the salary you seek.
Search for a foreign company directory in Russia, perhaps from your American embassy in Russia, The British Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) The chamber of commerce, The Russian British chamber of Commerce in Moscow. get the directories of foreign companies. And post your cv s to all of them that are relevent to your career.
There is always demand for native english speakers in all careers with expat or foreign companies in Moscow.
Also try a search rambler.ru employement agencies jobs etc type english after each word search |

Russia does allow you to work legally in Russia, look up the article on this site about work visas. However your future employer must be registered with immigration authorities to invite you to work. Its more likely that the employer will be a foreign company seeking foreigners and have previously employed a foreigners. Otherwise its difficult for the company to employ you, and easier for them to employ a local.
Its the employer who will sort out your work permit, and only then will your business visa become useful. I suggest you get sorted with an employment contract before you enter Russia, its easier |
