Hello,
Can someone comment on adopting kids from Russia? I am a woman married (to a man!) living in California. My husband and I want to adopt a child from Russia. I have so many questions, but I guess I'll start with this: How do parents relinquish their children for adoption and why? What are the main reasons children are put for adoption? In California, most children are from parents that got involved with drugs. What about Russia? I would appreciate an honest answer. I look forward to providing a poor unfortunate child a happy life. thank you.

IMHO

Adoption of children in Russia is the extremly hard procedure. It can be made, but it is necessary to pass many instances, to give many documents. The task will be easier, if you dare to adopt the child having congenital diseases, for example a heart disease or so one. And you thus, will tell to authorities that be going not only to adopt the child, but also to cure it, having given information that you can make it and to you the finance will suffice.

I recently watch TV prog at this topic, something has already found out about it.

My wife and I recently adopted a 1 year old boy from Russia. The whole procedure took about 10 months. There is a ton of paperwork involved with international adoption. My wife is a legal secretary so she handled all of it. She said the average person who didn't do that kind of work would just be blown away by it all. Some people even get lawyers to do it for them.

It's a worthwhile experience I wouldn't have traded for the world. Our son,Alexander is a very busy boy and a joy to have around. We had to jump through alot of hoops, but in the end it will all be worth it. Our son is very healthy despite the fact he weighed only 3 pounds at birth and spent his fist 5 months in a hospital. He's a little behind other kids his age but he was also born a couple months early. So instead of being like a 15 month old, he's more like a 12 or 13 month old. He'll catch up eventually.

We were in Russia for 3 weeks on our second trip (you take 2 trips) and we were there over the Russian Holidays so we got to experience that also. But being there for the holidays also made our trip longer because we had to wait for all the Government offices to reopen. In the mean time we got to see alot of Moscow. We were fortunate enough to have a connection in Russia. We have a Russian friend who attends college in our town and has all the holidays with our family. His mother (no English) and his aunt (english teacher) came to Moscow from Voronezh and toured us around for about a week. They took us to museums, art galleries, the Kremlin amougst other things. We ate at the home of one of there friends so we got to experience how average Moscovites live and eat. All very interesting.

I hope you and your husband decide to pursue adopting a Russian child. It was a very rewarding experience to us.
