Hi I am going to Saint Petersburg for a short trip. I am an American, so I need a normal visa. I will be arriving from London on Saturday afternoon and I will leave Wednesday afternoon.
While I am there I will be staying with a friend so I cannot easily register my visa. My question is, do I have to? I will be leaving Wednesday at 17:50. Would that be 3 business days? If not can I just skip the process?

Hi,

If you're leaving on Wednesday afternoon, three working days will not have passed, so officially, according to the law (#115 FZ, signed 26 July 2002 by Mr. Putin), you DO NOT need a registration.

However, the local immigration officials might start creating problems, so if you can register, register. If you can't -- then in case there's a problem prove them you entered on Saturday (not a working day), and that 3 days haven't passed. also, refer to the law. And I think everything will be ok.

Anyway, all these measures are for illegal immigrants, so I think there's a very little chance of any troubles.
