I and I am sure there are others here who are interested in knowing more about the interests that Russians have outside of work. Of course this is a very broad topic. For example do people think that Russians spend more of their leisure time with feiends and family than others?
Also, what are popular leisure interests and activities in Russian cities and villages? For example spring will come soon to Russia. What are some examples of spring-time interests that Russians enjoy? I gotta think that spring fever is something that Rusdsians can relate too. Smile

first of all, spring has already come) there is only one problem with sudden snow, ...
People try to meet their friends, because they don't always have an opportunity to meet them during the working days.
A s for teens different kinds of winter sports are really popular with them, for example snowboarding. Some teens a lucky to live not far from the mountains, but there are many places for snowboarders in Moscow and not far from it.
As it's very cold , many people prefer staying indoors . So restaurants and cafes providing hot drinks and cozy chill out rooms are really popular
I can't say that things change in spring, summer or autumn. People keep going to cinemas, cafes, theatres, etc. As for me i'm both a shopaholic and a person keen on literature and I spend all my free time either shopping or reading.

Banyas I definitly associate with Russia. Tell me, are people generally very social in banya or do people who are strangers pay little attention to others? I have never been to a banya. We don't have them in the states as far as I know. We now have spas but they are more for rich women since they are very expensive.

well.. i've never been to a banya with total strangers, so i don't know. banya does strengthen a bond though, i think. i can certainly recommend it.

in finland i was in a sauna with a group of which most people were unknown. it was like a turf hut in a park near helsinki central station. cooling down was done in a pond just across a cycling path. there talking to strangers seemed like a very natural thing in the sauna.

we also discovered it because one evening our group of students saw some naked people running across the path into the water Razz

In the summer the majority of Russians are engaged in the suburban sites, the kitchen gardens named summer residences. There they raise a potato, vegetables, fruit, greens, flowers. Many inhabitants of small cities earn also this kitchen garden - a unique way to make ends meet a little. Such inhabitants approximately 30 percent. Other inhabitants live quite well, but save many money after will collect a crop and eat fruits of the work.

Young and middle-aged people frequently leave for city on the river or lake to sunbathe and bathe. In the summer in Moscow it is impossible to be, as it happens very hot, asphalt thows and it becomes intolerable.

Others take holidays and leave for travel, on the south of Russia or to Crimea. In the summer therefore in city the business life becomes transfixed also the profit with usual activity fall Smile to tell the truth, it is peak of a season for dealers ice-cream.Very Happy

Personally I live in suburb of Moscow and at me the house. Every day in the summer I come back from work, I have a little a rest. Then to me there come my friends and we together in a court yard do a barbecue and we listen to music. We have very pleasantly a rest.

Of course we do have banya in the states - maybe not in the parts of the states where few russians live... There are several of them in Brooklyn and there's one on Fulton Street in Manhattan.

Here is its web site:

It's called a Spa, but in reality it is pretty much a banya and lots of Russian immigrants go there. I have not been there myself, but many of my friends have.
