Personally, I think Cyndy should appointed as a moderator. She would be fair and just.

Check the polls section to vote for your would-be favourite moderator. Lets move all forum and moderater issues out of the winston threads and keep them either here or at the new poll.

Rick,
First welcome! Do you know you are now on a virtual asylum! Laughing
Thanks but bo thanks, I am not up for the job. Mediashark however recently was gracious enough to volunteer for this headache. God bless her! Unfortunately it seems that the current moderators are out to lunch so to speak. Perhaps when and if they re-appear, they will take heart to Mediashark's generous offer. It is certainly needed.

Why do we need moderators? Winston still comes in here despite efforts to ban/ignore/assail him and everyone in here and I mean EVERYONE are guilty of the "personalized pissing contests" that El-Casey mentioned. Any moderator with a life would get fed up and leave...which is what the original moderators did.

Cyndy's right. Bring up more interesting topics and material and keep the fighting to a minimum and the forum should moderate itself. We're adults...er..well....supposedly.

BTW...who cares about the forum...what about the site? Its crumbling apart, or getting hopelessly outdated by the day. No site...no forum. Someone should do something about THAT! Very Happy

Cleaning work is necessary to prevent bots and spammers to overrun the forum. This affirmo bot alone posts at least 10-20 times a day recently: it messes the place up tremendously.

This thread itself is a another good example why some basic moderator's work is needed: it does not belong in this part of the forum, titled 'Russian People'.
Mediashark has taken the subject outside already by starting a poll/vote. Let's keep it out of here. Some moderator can take care of (re)moving this thread later.

When it comes to complaints and, frankly, whining, people suddenly get very active. So many people replied to this complaint. I wish those people posted more information/questions/comments/experiences.

This forum is not the whole site and those who claim that the whole way to russia site is poor quality -- well, it means that you just didn't look further than this forum...

Now, because of the limited resources, we are busy updating the information on this website, promoting it, developing relationships with various companies / organizations / individuals, adding new sections, etc.

There's simply not enough time to spend a few hours on this forum trying to figure out who is right and who is wrong.

We hope that people will just NOT read what they don't like, and read what they like. If anybody disturbs you, just ignore the posts, don't reply, don't show your opinion about this person, as this is what he needs. If you see a spam message on this board, don't pay attention to it. If it pisses you off, send me a PM, I will delete it if I receive more than 1 complaint.

It's very easy to be peaceful and to enjoy life. I don't understand why you need to be disturbed... especially by some crazy psychos... this forum is for people to exchange ideas, ask questions, get answers...

I would be happy if a few of you agreed to moderate the forum, but then knowing that you have your own opinions I would be afraid that you would just delete the posts that you subjectively don't like. If you are ready to be a _tolerant_ moderator, then I will really appreciate your help -- just drop me an e-mail at dimas@waytorussia.net and PM (to make sure it doesn't get spam filtered).

Really, in December, you could not book a flight in 2005. It was your site, not infinity.ru. Train tickets are still at zero dollars, but so is polznet.ru. So you can not be blamed for that. You have 1/2 hour wait to call to get through on your phone lines. Language section was awol for a long time. I tried to give some business when I was in Russia, but your network was so screwed that I could not. Broken links, hackers and so on. Sites that are hacked really make people not want to personal information like passport numbers, credit cards and so forth.
This forum is the least of your worries.

But hey you have a nice new logo. Congrats!!!

Well, lack of security is concerning but it does not seem that giving out your passport number alone is that dangerous. Or am I wrong? Because a credit card number is pumped through a secure server, so that's o.k. Now, I believe prices for train tickets change a bit every month.. so they could not really post that. I am still curious about it. Guess I won't really find out till I get to Moscow.

Among the users of the forum seem to be several people who would be ready to help out in moderating it. Of course they would have their own opinions, may even feel tempted to just delete posts they won't like Razz when faced with the 'power' to do so. I might feel quite tempted myself to kick Winston's out Very Happy

Still, i believe that several users would be responsible enough to realize that the forum is not just a plaything of their own, but serves a common good. Distinguishing between the responsibilities of a task as moderator and expression of own opinions as poster is important. But why would someone as mediashark, cyndy22 (yes i know she backed out) or wavetossed (?! he stayed out of these discussions.. bet he thought it was better to concentrate on contents) not be up to it?

I don't think it is too hard. Good communication is of course necessary between the moderators, but I think it would definitely free your own hands a little for more important matters if you appointed one or two people who spend (too) much of their time on the forum anyways.

Rick, there can be moderators, not moderator.
Camrade can look after St Petersburg forum. Wavetossid can help on the visa or other area. Mediashark can do Moscow.
Spreading the duties is the best bet.
I am sure that Cyndy would be interested in Adoption area like discussed before. E or Mogs can do a political forum.

Paul Holmes: i know how it works, it is not too tough technically. Dmitri has a very fine control panel at his disposal in which he can give and take rights for users on different areas of the board. He could make you administrator within 30 seconds Wink or ban my IP range forever after reading this post.

I was not discussing division of the tasks between to-be moderators. It doesn't seem necessary at this stage, with no one appointed. I was merely pointing out that there are several people who seem to feel responsible about the forum in a way. And several of these people could make an ok moderator, even if they would have low opinions on some of the others around in the place.

They just frequent this place alot. I don't think it makes them any more or less qualified or responsible more than anything.

And it looks like the moderating has started anyway: the affirmo bot is gone, some of Winstons more offensive posts are gone and i'm pretty sure he will be soon.
