Try not to give a name that will cause your kid any embarrassment among other kids, and especially one that your friends and relatives will keep prouncing wrong!

Sorry, when I said Ostap, I meant to say Ippolit or Archip.
What will be his last name anyway? I can imagine: "Ippolit Ghandi"
Sounds great.

STFU, "russian" names are pathetic, and Alexei, dmitry and all this shit is western loved names, no real revolutionary roots nor anything, only good actual name is Vasiliy and stills suck.

Right after the Great October Revolution and until the beginning of the Great Fatherland (Patriotic) War there was a fashion in Soviet Russia, a fashion of giving children "revolutionary names". These names were usually constructed of Bolsheviks' slogans and names of revolutionary leaders. Despite their artificial origin, every name had its ethnic background, for instance such names as Vladlen and Volen sounded quite Slavic, Izaida and Izil' sounded Jewish and Krarmija and Lagshmivara reminded of Georgian names. Here are the examples of Soviet first names with translations (they are arranged according to the Russian alphabet; names in red are for boys, blue ones are for girls and the grey ones can be boyish/girlish depending on the ending):

there are no people with such names.I knew only one man with a stupidest name. His father was from somewhere in Africa and while studying in Russia,he fell in love with a russian girl. Her name was Ludmila Popova. She dumped him ,but when he had his first son many many years later he named him after her.So ,this guy's first name was "Ludmila Popova"And THAT IS pathetic.
