Hi

In your website pages on Kamchatka (How to travel etc.) you mention that permits are required to travel in Kamchatka. In this connection I have two questions:

Do you need to have a permit to enter Kamchatka (e.g. when buying an airplane ticket in Moscow or on arrival in Petropavlovsk) ?

Is one allowed to travel the roads from Petropavlovsk to Esso, Obtyabrisk and Ust Kamchatka by public transport without a permit ?

Thank you

Hi Hans,

I heard that permits are no longer required to enter Kamchatka, but I wouldn't give this information 100%, because there's always a chance that even if it's true not all officials at Kamchatka know this or accept this.

I would recommend you to look at the Hotels section at our Kamchatka guide and make a phone call to one of the major hotels there and ask them about the permits.
I guess you will still need permits to travel around Kamchatka.

In any case, the permits is not something complicated, it generally means that you should purchase a tour from a travel agency that can obtain those permits. There's one agency advertised at our Kamchatka guide, you can contact them to make your arrangements. It is hard and almost impossible to travel alone at Kamchatka, so you will be much better off ordering at least a minimal package from a travel company. Even Russians who travel there usually arrange something with their friends or travel companies there.
