I have two older bands that I like very much, Aquarium and DDT. I know they are older but they are classic, kind of like Rolling Stone or Zepplin of Russia. I saw Aquarium in Munich in December last year and got to meet them, they were so good and excellent musicians. I also love Vladimir Vysotsky and Zhana Bichevskaya(??)(I know, very old school, but good stuff) , but my question is this. In visiting Russia I always look for new music to bring back, but have a very hard time finding GOOD Russian punk or rebel folk that is new but not cheesy or westernized. I am looking for new bands, any suggestions?????
I am going back over in July. |

| Ole Lukkoye - perhaps the most stylish band coming from Russia lately. Very hard to find (signed with independent Klangbad label from Germany, run by Hans-Joachim Irmler from the 70-s cult band Faust), but worth looking for. Definitely better than anything I have heard from Russia in last five-seven years. A wild mixture of techno-trance and Russian rural folk. The "Horse Tiger" album is almost a masterpiece. |

| There's a Russian band called Auktion or something like that (don't remember exactly) that plays very unusual music that could only be classified as experimental. Most of it is unlistenable, frankly, but the CD I heard had two really infectious songs on it. The best one was called Ptitsa (bird). |

Punk bands... And nobody has mentioned Jegor Letov and Grazhdanskaya oborona!!? Definitely not westernized or cheesy! As a matter of fact, I happen to have vsyo diyot po planu as ring tone...
If some modern, then perhaps Poslednye tanki v Parizhe and cd 2084. Their performance surely isn't like any of those junk-emo-"punk"-"rebel"-shit.
Err... Why didin't I found this thread earlier? Let's talk about Russian punk rock
Anyone else feels like trashing emo? |

So, are you saying you could like a old band, maybe the "Sex Pistols"? Huh? |
