This is important - as of 12.4.2004 it is not possible to get a tourist visa in Beijing unles you have CHINESE residency,. You can get a transit visa if you have a ticket from Beijing through to Moscow only. They will not issue a transit visa if you have a ticket from Ulaan Bator to Moscow, for that you would need to apply in UB.
For the record, if you do have a ticket from Beijing to Moscow you don't need to provide a ticket from Moscow home in order to get a transit visa.
The people at the embassy were very nice about it, but very clear. The rules have changed. |

It this is really true and is not a fantasy of the people you talked to, I can think of three ways around it already:
Getting a Business visa instead http://waytorussia.net/Services/VisaSupport/Business.html
Obtaining a temporary residency in China (don't know if it's easy, but in Germany, for example, you just need to take a paper from a hostel and register it in local prefecture)
Going to Mongolia and getting a visa there
I'm sure there are a lot of other ways too... |

Hallo
It's definitely true, there are signs up to that effect in the consulate and I checked it out with the travel agency Monkey Business too. I'm pretty sure it applies to business visas too. However, it's still possible to get visas in Hong Kong.
Does anyone have any idea about how easy it is to get a visa in Ulan Bator? I've heard that it's pretty hard.
