this may seem like a strange question, but is there a landing card type thing that you need to fill in when flying to st. petersburg? there's one here in london that requires foreigners to provide the address of where they are staying. if there is one, then what address do i put down? that of where i'm actually staying (an apartment of some friends of the familiy) or the hotel name that is on the invitation that i got via waytorussia? does it ever get questioned?
thanks in advance. |

From what I understand, you are given a customs declaration card on the plane before landing, which likely requires the address of your visa 'sponsor.' Best bet is likely to be the address of the place actually sponsoring your visa, though I could be incorrect.
Any veterans want to field this one? |

Depends.
If your embassy has it's act together, besides your shiny visa you should also have a white immigration card given to you as well. This is where you have to fill out "where you're staying". To answer, put the hotel name that is giving you Visa support.
If everyone is being over efficient, you may be given another white immigration card on the plane...since you may have one already, put it in your pocket and forget it. Heaven forfend if you are given a Customs form on the plane, because I have never been given one. They are about A5 size, greyish paper, double sided.
So....if you have only a visa and nothing else, before you get to passport control you should be able to find a table with the white immigration cards on it....fill it out and get in line. Passport control should stamp your passport, and keep half of the immigration card (oh shaky memory...or give it back to you stamped) and it is VERY important you don't lose this.
After that you proceed to pick your bags up which is where you may find the Customs form. The last three times I flew into Novosibirsk they had none, and didn't care even when going out. St P/Mow may be different.

My visa came with a stapled in Arrival/Departure Card. On arrival you are required to fill in both parts the Migration Card and hand it over to the Border Control Officer. Registration stamps are placed on the back of the departure part of the card.
You must fill out the Customs Card, if you have to declare anything and then go through the Red Line, if nothing to declare go through Green. Most people will have nothing to declare. |

Is Arrival/Departure Card (the stapled on top of my Visa by the travel agency) and Migration Card are the same things?
The travel agency provided some hotel where I am suposedly staying (the hotel named in the Voucher). But I am satying at another hotel. Just to confirm once again - what hotel should I put in the Migration card?
Say I put in the hotel name that is printed on the Voucher, what if I am stopped by militia on the street and they will ask me where I am staying and that would be inconsistent with the Migration Card info? |

The Arrival/Departure Card is not the same as the Migration Card. See http://waytorussia.net/RussianVisa/Status.html
The Migration Card calls for the adress of the host organization in Russia, this would be the company that issued you your invitation. |

I don't see Arrival/Departure card mentioned in that artcle.
I called the company that helped me with my visa. They said that the card stapled to my visa is the Migration card and I should not need anything else. Is this the case? Do I need anything else except the customs form to enter/exit Russia? |

For me: i also had an arrival/departure 'card' (more thin piece of paper, then a card) with my visa, but they did not touch it at border control, so it went into my souvenir box when i got home again.
I filled out the 'standard' migration card thing you get on the plain. I would recommend just to do that. Maybe you can use that arrival/departure thing instead of, but i doubt it. My guess they only use it at certain (less electronic) border patrols? |

he Arrival/Departure Card is NOT the Migration Card. Thr Migration Card you fill out and sign and pass in to the Border Control Officer, he keeps part A and you get back Part B, registration marks are stamped on the back of part B. Part B is handed in when you exit Russia. On your Migration card you put the address of your host organization in Russia, which would be the aggency that issued your invitation
For an example of Migration Card See: http://waytorussia.net/RussianVisa/Status.html |
