any especial events in the city? are the museums and other tourist attractions open? what about restaurants? thank you oberman

Unlike the U.S., Independence day in Russia is not a holiday of great importance as it is rather new (it was brought in by Boris Yeltsin in 1994. At that time there was a joke that it is a day of Yeltsin's independence from Gorbachev ). Museums, restaurants and stores will be open.
