I was at the Tretyakov museum in January. I don't know if was the new one, but it looked pretty new to me. I don't think I could have spent 10 hours there, but that's me.It was very nice.Long line but we got a nice place in line.It payed to know a pushy Russian woman.

Check out the Shilov Gallery. I'm not really intoportrait art but this is some really cool stuff. Just awesome. It's near Christ the Savior Church. The Pushkin Museum is nearby also so you could hit both real easy in ten hours.

never heard of the 'museum' yet, but the gallery that camrade's talking about holds temporary/new exhibits time to time. even i think 1 day isn't enough to see and enjoy everything at this gallery! amazing--must see!

From what I hear, the old one is much better. It's near Tretyakovskaya Metro.

The New Tretakov Gallery is well worth seeing. It's on the second and third floors of the Central House of Artists. Most of the collection is huge paintings of Soviet Industrialism, but the best of the kind. Impressive stuff.
Outside the CHOA is a eclectic sculpture garden. Some of the pieces are new, and some are relocated communist sculptures from other locations. Beer tents, flower beds, a very nice little place. On weekends artists set up outside and sell their paintings.
Across the street is Gorky Park. Rides, cotton candy, paddle boats in a duckpond, lots of cafes. Gorky Park is a great place right now. You should have no trouble killing 10 hours between the New Tretakov Gallery and Gorky Park. |
